What we found: Charisma can be thought of as a signal that leaders send about their positive abilities and intentions, and leaders can send charismatic signals by using verbal tactics such as rhetorical questions, three-part lists and metaphors, and nonverbal tactics such as strategic pauses, gestures and eye contact.
Why it matters: There is no doubt charisma boosts leader effectiveness, but charisma might seem like a ‘black box’ to leaders. This research unravels the mysterious concept of charisma and transforms it into actionable steps that leaders can take to be perceived as more charismatic.
